Lucy Kennedy will NOT host an Irish version of Blind Date after all
Lucy Kennedy described Blind Date as her "dream job" but TV3 have decided to scrap the planned show.
The Herald can reveal bosses at the station have decided against it in favour of a "fresher format".
TV3 bought the rights to the dating show, which was fronted by Cilla Black in the UK, under the direction of Jeff Ford, who left the station in April.
However, insiders have revealed that the new director of content, Lynda McQuaid, wants to move in a direction and feels the dating show is "outdated".
"Blind Date has been scrapped - Lynda feels the format is outdated and tired, they want to do something fresh," a source told the Herald.
"Lucy will be fronting another show but it's not likely to be a dating show.
"TV3 are looking at a number of different formats that they feel would suit their viewers better - Blind Date just doesn't suit their demographic," they added.
The news will come as a blow for Lucy who told Irish Tatler this week that filming would start later this year.
The Seven O'Clock Show presenter also recently said she wanted to get three weddings out of the show.
"I fancy myself as a bit of a matchmaker in real life, so this gig is perfect for me," she said.
"So I'm setting myself a target of three weddings to happen as a result of the show.
"What I love about the show is that it's just great family viewing.
"I used to watch Cilla Black with my mam and my granny - it's a show that can get three generations on a couch which is very special.
"It's good, clean family viewing and I'm so excited to sit down with my family and watch it," she continued.
"It's such a successful global format and it's really inoffensive viewing as well, so I'm delighted to be presenting it.
"It really is my dream job and I'm so delighted that I decided to move to TV3.
"It's my home away from home here - it feels like so much longer than a year since I started," she added.
Further details of TV3's upcoming schedule is set to be announced at their Autumn Upfront Presentation which will take place in the coming weeks.
