Karen Koster has revealed that she would "not rule anything out" after being linked with Sinead Desmond's old job on TV3's Ireland AM.

The popular presenter (36), who has been with Xpose for 10 years, is among the names being mentioned to fill Desmond's position on the early morning chat show.

"Someone else said that to me. It's funny, I did three years on Ireland AM and always found the mornings so tough," she said.

"But as you have a family, you're like, 'God, it would be great to be able to collect your kids from school'.

"You want to be that person who's at the school gates because that's when you hear all about the problems and the issues that have gone on through the day.

"It really just has to be a job that works for your lifestyle, no matter what it is, if there's a little bit of flexibility with your hours.

"I'm lucky that I'm able to take a Wednesday off now, so that really works."

When asked if she would consider ever leaving the showbiz show she has co-anchored for the past decade, she told the Diary she would always keep her options open.

Karen, who's expecting her third baby with husband John McGuire in June, recently branched out into a new area after filming the documentary Mammy Guilt, which airs this Wednesday.

"I wouldn't rule anything out, that's the way I'd look at it," she said.

"I mean, this time last year I didn't think I'd be sat here talking about doing a documentary.

"So I'm really glad I got to make it because it was never something I had a massive ambition to do, so if something came along that was different, I would absolutely try my hand at it.

"When you have kids and you take a step back, you do reassess things, and I feel like I'd just deal with whatever happens down the line."

Karen also said she's nervous about the reaction to her first documentary, and added that she was especially emotional during filming as she was pregnant and didn't even realise it.

"There are lots of nerves about it," she said.

"I was pregnant and didn't even know, so that's why I was such a mess during it.

"With Xpose, you don't get to show a huge amount of your personality, so I hope people like what they see. I hope it goes down well."

Mum to two boys, Finn (3) and one-year-old JJ, Karen said she's keeping the gender of her third baby a surprise, but hates people suggesting they're hoping to have a little girl this time.

"It's offensive, and I think it's disloyal to the baby you get or the baby you don't get. I wouldn't care," Karen said.

"I'd just love to be a family of five and that's the way I'm looking at it."
