Kanye West has compared reality TV to rap and says the Kardashians deserve an Emmy for their show.

West, who is married to Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Kim Kardashian, says his wife and her family are subjected to the same prejudice that hip-hop stars have experienced in the past.

The Yeezus rapper expressed his views in an interview with fashion website SHOWStudio.

"My wife and my family should've had plenty of Emmys by now, but reality shows are considered to be like rap was when the Modrian [hotel] wouldn't let Run-DMC and mother-f***ing Will Smith stay there because they were rappers." he said.

"The idea of a reality star not being allowed into a fashion show or not being nominated for their show, even if it's the longest running and the most popular and... everybody I know watches it."

Kanye attributed the success of reality TV to his wife and her family, saying they are 'breaking ground' and even called it an "art form".

"I feel proud to be in a family that has, you know, so many people breaking ground for the generations to come. I just feel it's like, 'Whoa, reality show, that's so f***ing new of an art form.' "

Also in the interview he compared himself to Michaelangelo.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians has just launched its tenth season on E! and the show has spawned several spin-offs, the most recent being Dash Dolls and I Am Caitlyn.
