Joan Rivers 'still on life support' as family maintain bedside vigil
Joan Rivers remains on life support.
The 81-year-old comedienne was hospitalised last Thursday after she apparently stopped breathing while undergoing a throat procedure at a New York City clinic.
And on Tuesday Joan’s daughter Melissa released a new statement about her mother’s condition.
“On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received. At this time she does remain on life support,” Melissa told website The Wrap.
“I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”
Melissa’s update comes amid reports doctors were planning to take Joan out of her induced coma.
However, the iconic comedian’s daughter chose not to comment on the claims in her statement.
It has also been reported that this week’s episode of Fashion Police! has been cancelled while Joan continues to fight for her life.
According to the New York Daily News, filming of the E! programme, which had been scheduled to be taped to coincide with New York Fashion Week, will not be going ahead for the moment.
Joan hosts the fashion critique show alongside daughter Melissa, Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic.
And the co-hosts have been pledging their support for Joan on Twitter over the past few days.
“4 the first time in years I got down on my knees & prayed tonight! I encourage U 2 do the same 4 @Joan_Rivers my grandma! #inconsolable (sic)” Kelly tweeted.
“Praying for @Joan_Rivers and @MelRivers. Even though Joan's the strongest woman I know, every single prayer counts. I love you, Joan,” Giuliana wrote on her page.
