He wasn't expected to return until 2018.

Coronation Street’s Jim McDonald could be returning to the cobbles this year.

Charles Lawson has hinted that his character will be coming back to the show sooner than expected.

Lawson told The Sun that he speaks to Simon Gregson, who plays his on-screen son Steve McDonald, on a weekly basis and that he believes “there’s the possibility of something happening sort of over the winter time.”

When asked about the prospect of father and son being reunited, Lawson said: “I think so, there are rumours around that there might be something to do with something I can’t really discuss. Watch this space.”

Jim isn’t due to return to the soap until 2018 after he was jailed for holding up a bank, but his comments have left viewers speculating that he could be returning sooner than anticipated.
