It's going to be a rough few months for Jay Duffy come September, as the rising star will have to juggle acting and Studying for the Leaving Cert.

Jay's TV debut came in 2011 when he landed a regular part on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

He has since gone on to take part in the 24 Hour Plays at The Abbey as well as featuirng in teh latest season of the History Channel's Vikings.

Even though he's keeping an eye out for more regular roles, the 17-year-old son of Boyzone star Keith Duffy told the Herald he's going to have to scale back on his work commitments if he wants to get decent grades.

"There might be a couple of exciting projects coming up for me, but I'll have to juggle them with school this year," he said.

"I suppose putting acting on hold for a few months would be the wise thing to do especially when it comes to crunch time and exams.

"I'm in Belvedere College and I have to say they've been great - so lenient when it comes to giving me time off to work.  I couldn't have asked for anything more than that.

"But sixth year is different, and it would absolutely have to be a big job if I were to get time off from school."

Jay and his sister Mia have just returned from a holiday to the US with Keith and mum Lisa.

"It was really nice and chilled out," Jay said.

"I'm hoping to get another holiday in before going back to school in September and heading into the dreaded Leaving Cert, but we'll see."

Jay, who has had no official training as an actor, is planning to move to the UK when he completes his second-level education.

"I'd be interested in studying drama after I finish, but I've a huge desire to go to London too." he said.
