Vincent Margera, who appeared as Bam Margera's uncle 'Don Vito' in MTV's Viva La Bam, part of the Jackass franchise, has died aged 59.

He had suffered from ill health for several years including liver and kidney failure and died on Sunday at hospital in Pennsylvania.

Viva La Bam ran from 2003 to 2006 and regularly featured Don Vito being tormented by his nephew Bam and his devilish pranks.

In 2007 he was convicted on two counts of sexual assault on a child and received 10 years to life on probation.

Speaking to CNN, his sister in law April Margera, said he had spoken to her last week and said he had enjoyed himself on the show and wanted to thank all the fans.

She added, "He went through a lot, especially with the Denver stuff. He wanted everyone to know that he never did that."

Jackass creator Johnny Knoxville tweeted about the death on Sunday, saying "You will be missed".
