THEY’RE already establishing themselves as one of the most familiar double acts on Irish TV – but Alison Comyn could be moving on without UTV Ireland co-anchor Chris Donoghue.
The Drogheda-native tweeted Chris a photo with his Newstalk Breakfast co-host Ivan Yates, telling him “it’s over... I’ve found someone else.”
Chris tweeted back “Awkward moment when your media wives meet up”.
The pair bumped into each other at the FleishmanHillard Ireland 25th anniversary party this evening.
Alison and Chris have been one of the main faces of the new channel since it launched here earlier this year.
The station’s news coverage – although widely praised for good coverage of rural events – is still trying to gain a foothold in the competitive evening news ratings war.
Its main evening news bulletin recently moved to a 5.30 slot, putting it in head-to-head competition with TV3’s established evening news show, hosted by Colette Fitzpatrick.
Meanwhile Chris and Ivan’s Newstalk Breakfast Show continues to grow its audience
Figures released earlier this year revealed the show had added 12,000 more listeners, bringing its total audience to 173,000.
The duo play an important part in the station’s increasingly popular morning offering, broadcasting in the 7-10am slot before Pat Kenny.
RTE’s Morning Ireland still remains the dominant player in the breakfast show market, with a commanding listenership of 426,000.
