It's back to the day job for Ruth Negga as she returns to hit US show
Filming on the second season of Preacher is well underway as the critically-acclaimed supernatural comedy drama returns for a 13-part run.
Based on the comic book and produced by Seth Rogen, the show follows a West Texas preacher, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his lover Tulip O'Hare (and off-screen girlfriend Ruth Negga) and vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).
Irish actress Negga has been on location in New Orleans as she films scenes for the 13-part series and has teased details about the highly-anticipated second season.
Rather than kick off the show where the comic books begin, the first series served as a prequel where viewers could get to know the characters. So the second season is where all the action kicks off, as it opens where the comic book starts.
"It's a road trip that goes horribly wrong. Tulip's expecting a great fun time, like a road trip you take with your friends, and it doesn't quite end up like that," she told Entertainment Weekly.
"Tulip's not interested in looking for God; I don't think she really believes in it. But unfortunately, her soul mate is Jesse and that's what he wants. Tulip and Cassidy don't really have any other options. He's a vampire and she's on the lam her whole life.
"Their only option is to go on the road with this other miscreant who they expect will show them a good time - but just doesn't."
The Oscar-nominated actress, who previously starred season one of RTE gangland drama Love/Hate, stars in summer blockbuster Warcraft and featured on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The London-based actress will remain Stateside as she continues to shoot with Preacher, where she's quickly gaining a favourable reputation for her talent among her peers.
Interstellar actress Anne Hathaway recently revealed she's a big fan of the Limerick star.
"There are always these actors who really capture focus and attention. You hear their name coming up all the time, there's a real buzz. That's definitely Ruth," she told the Irish Sun.
"She's crazy super talented, really mesmerising and evocative in her work, making really smart, very strong choices. Very intelligent and considered."
Preacher will return to AMC in the US on June 19 and Irish viewers can continue to watch the series through Amazon Prime.
