'It's a world that can go in all kinds of different directions' - RTE head of drama hints at season 6 for Love/Hate
The question of whether or not a sixth season of Love/Hate will materialise is pressing for fans who are left wondering whether or not crime kingpin has survived the final episode of the fifth season.
Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One, Jane Gogan, head of drama at RTE, has hinted that a sixth season may be in the offing.
"It's a very big world and it can extend far beyond what we've seen so far, but that decision [on whether or not to commission a sixth series] has yet to be made," she said.
"What we alway do with series such as Love/Hate, if there is a series such as Love/Hate, is we go into development immediately, while we're in transmission, then we'll take time to reflect and be ready to go so that will happen over the next short while."
Asked directly about a sixth series, Jane said, "That is totally up to Stuart [Carolan, writer]".
She added, "It's a world that can go in all kinds of different directions. Already we have seen it extending right the way across Dublin from Darndale to Foxrock and Dundrum.
"It's a very big world. It's always been set around the M50, catching the full spectrum of Dublin adn I think it had redefined Dublin in our imagination.
"There's many places it could go but it's really up to STuart. He is a fantastic writer and he's really caught the viewers' imagination."
However, Jane mooted the possibility that Carolan may move on to an entirely new project.
As for the question on everyone's lips - did gangster Nidge survive being shot at close range in the chest by Patrick - she said, "I think we'll wait for Stuart to pronounce on that one. We draw our own conclusions."
