It could happen to a Bishop: Des is axed after steamy routine

Des Bishop was the latest celebrity to get sent home as love was in the air on a Valentine's-themed 'Dancing with the Stars'.

The final eight celebrities battled it out during the romantic show, but it was the American comedian who got the chop.

A devastated Bishop last night said of his 'Dancing with the Stars' elimination: "If I got voted off, it has nothing to do with the dancing."

"I went out on my highest score," he added. "I'm disappointed."

A shocked Des, who got 24 points following his dance, continued: "I would have liked to have gone further. The public vote is such an odd thing. I was getting great feedback and doing social media but...

"Maybe people think you are OK, who knows? It is what it is. It might be that people just didn't want to vote for me," he said, shrugging.

The public decide on 50pc of the votes, and Des clearly thinks it's not a fair way of judging the series.

"Maybe it was because I called Brian Redmond an asshole. I was just kidding around," he said.

Bishop continued: "I was thinking we would go a little further. John Bishop was tweeting for me, you know what I mean?"

Week six of the ratings winner for RTÉ saw foxtrots, quicksteps, American smooths and Paso Dobles impress the judging panel.

Talent agent and judge Julian Benson, who is recovering from a bout of pneumonia, was temporarily replaced by creative producer Darren Bennett.

Next weekend's show will see the introduction of a big twist, as the remaining dancers will see their partners swapped.
