Former beauty queen Kerri Ingram-Walpole has her sights set on TV after ditching modelling to focus on a presenting career.

The Dubliner admitted she was "surprised" after making it to the final stages for a hosting gig on cult network E! News.

The popular channel, which launched the career of the likes of Ryan Seacrest (right), was involved in a massive search across Britain and Ireland for its first-ever local presenter to front coverage of the channel here.

Kerri beat off thousands of entries from aspiring presenters to land a coveted spot in the final six of the competition.

"I still can't quite believe it myself, as there were so many entries," Kerri told the Herald.

"It was my first experience presenting on TV, so it was even more surprising that I made it that far.

"The other finalists are all so great at what they do, so it was great to have been chosen alongside them."

While she did not make it past the last six however, the petite blonde intends to use her newfound profile as a launchpad for her presenting career.

The Knocklyon native, who has a degree in journalism and media, impressed with her one-minute video audition and was then invited to screen test at an audition at E!'s London HQ.

"I was a bit nervous initially, as obviously it's E! - which is huge - and it was such a big opportunity, but once I got going it was so much fun - I loved it," explained Kerri.

"TV is a hard area to break into, but now I've done this it's definitely given me the urge to do more."

The 26-year-old has been based in the UK for over four years and represented Bristol in Miss Universe Great Britain last year.

Once a regular on the Dublin social scene, Kerri said she is no longer involved in modelling.

"Miss Universe Great Britain last year was amazing, and I have had a few opportunities since then, but I would rather concentrate on TV and media now," she added.
