Casting for the Irish version of Gogglebox is expected to begin shortly.

In May 2014, TV3 unveiled it as one of the highlights of its schedule launch, but this is the first time there has been any signs of progress.

The Ballymount station has seen a raft of changes in recent months, following its purchase by Virgin Media.

But now it’s full steam ahead for a number of new shows. These include Gogglebox Ireland, which is based on one of Channel 4’s most popular programmes.

TV3 is hoping to replicate the success RTE has enjoyed with First Dates Ireland by adding its own unique twist to a popular format.

The station plans to start casting some quirky characters within the coming weeks.

Gogglebox features normal people sitting at home watching television and has made some huge stars in Britain, including posh TV fans Steph and Dom.

The Irish version of the show is expected to hit the small screen this autumn.
