Piers Morgan claims he's been offered a cameo role in Coronation Street.

The controversial TV personality is currently one of the presenters of ITV's Good Morning Britain, and on Wednesday's (25May16) show he shared some news with his co-host Susanna Reid. Piers revealed bosses of the long-running soap have reached out to him on Twitter, inviting him to step onto the cobbles of Weatherfield.

"I've actually just had an offer from Coronation Street to do a cameo," he told Susanna. "They're asking what kind of role I'd like; do I want a fight in the Rovers? Do I want to be... You know?"

Susanna, clearly amused, asked Piers to clarify his comments, querying: "When you say you've had an offer from Coronation Street, you mean the Twitter producer has suggested a role you might play?"

Piers quickly cleared things up and insisted the offer was genuine, stressing that the person who reached out to him was speaking on behalf of the programme. He added that he's definitely available, and believes he'd make a big impact on the street.

"I think I would be very popular," he mused. "You know, have a bit of southern grit and good looks out there on that cobbled street..."

He further expressed interest in joining Corrie with a series of Twitter posts, responding to fans and the soap's official Twitter account. Piers even hinted at a part he'd like to play, admitting he'd be happy to cosy up to actress Kym Marsh's alter ego.

"I'm thinking Michelle Connor's new love interest @itvcorrie? @msm4rsh #cameo #morganonthecobbles" he wrote.

Employees at Corrie acknowledged his comments on Wednesday morning too, mentioning Piers' colleague Richard Arnold in a fun tweet: "Did you hear that? @GMBDaily @RichardAArnold tells us that @piersmorgan LOVES #Corrie - bring him with you next time Richard!"

Previous stars who have had a Corrie cameo include Ian McKellen and comedian Peter Kay.
