Lady Gaga finds it fun to indulge her "wicked impluses" in American Horror Story.

The 30-year-old singer shows off her acting skills in the TV series, first appearing in the fifth series, Hotel, and she’s set to return for the upcoming sixth. Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, is no stranger to over-the-top performances with her wacky music videos, though the blonde star finds she's more laidback when she’s working on a project that isn't her own.

“For many people, darkness is just that, they see it as a bleak, empty space. But I like being able to explore my dark side – it can be fun to indulge your wicked impulses,” she smiled to Britain’s TV & Satellite Week magazine. “When I’m on stage, I’m constantly evaluating my performances – what works, what doesn’t work. But when I’m acting I don’t feel the same need to have that kind of creative and artistic control.”

For Gaga acting is extremely freeing, but at the same time she finds it dangerous as her involvement in American Horror Story requires her to go back to “painful” places in her own life.

Last season the blonde beauty played The Countess, a vampire who enticed hotel guests into her lair in the old, haunted hotel, and the role won the singer her first Golden Globe. It’s not yet known what freaky alter ego she’ll take on next, though Gaga reassures fans that creator Ryan Murphy has worked his magic once again.

“I’ve never been so happy. Ryan is the person who gave me the chance to realise my acting ambitions,” she gushed. “Directors have often rejected me in the past for being too young or having too big a nose, but Ryan has given me confidence and inspiration.”

The musician has a string of movie roles under her belt to, including Machete Kills, Muppets Most Wanted and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
