Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton have spoken out after their former One Tree Hill boss Mark Schwahn was fired from The Royals over sexual misconduct allegations.

The writer and executive producer was suspended from the set of the E! series and officials at Lionsgate TV launched an investigation last month following a string of misconduct allegations made against him from the female cast and crew of his previous TV hit, One Tree Hill.

A spokesperson for Lionsgate TV announced yesterday that they were cutting ties with him and he wouldn't work on The Royals anymore, and both Sophia and Hilarie, who lodged claims against him, both thanked those who were brave enough to come forward.

"43 women came forward. To the ones who did and to the ones who didn’t or couldn’t, I hope this news is a salve to your souls," Sophia wrote. "To the other predators out there? I hope this is a lesson that sometimes, even if it takes time, justice is served. You’re next."

Hilarie added, "The reason we cannot condone 'degrees of harassment' is because one day you get your butt or boob grabbed at work. And you laugh it off. You become conditioned. She's such a good sport they say. And then? You meet a Schwahn. A (Harvey) Weinstein."

She continued her series of tweets by revealing she wasn't aware of how bad the working environment at One Tree Hill was until she worked on shows such as White Collar, Grey's Anatomy, Forever, and Lethal Weapon.

"You have treated me with such respect and kindness," she wrote to the cast and crew behind those shows. "And my ability to speak up now, all these years later, is because I have seen what filmmaking should be. You can be talented AND kind. And thank you to my OTH sisters.

"You women are amazing. When I left all those years ago, I could have never anticipated how strong this bond would remain. It's a good day, gals. Your art matters. It's what got me here."

In November, Sophia, Hilarie and castmembers including Bethany Joy Lenz and Jana Kramer signed an open letter condemning Schwahn for his behaviour on the set of One Tree Hill, calling his actions "traumatising" and "downright illegal".
