'I had this shame and guilt I couldn't get over' - Former Love Islander Zara Holland says she was left depressed by experience
Zara was stripped of her Miss Great Britain title after she performed a sex act on the show
Zara Holland has warned Love Island contestants that they will be 'haunted' by the show for the rest of their lives.
The 22-year old model appeared on the ITV2 dating show in 2016 but after she took part in a sex act with her partner Alex Bowen on the show, she was stripped of her Miss Great Britain title.
Speaking to The Sun she revealed that she suffered from anxiety in the wake of the furore and is now on anti-depressants.
She said that after she left Love Island she was not contacted by the show and was only contacted on Thursday to see if she was okay following the death of former contestant Sophie Gradon last week.
Zara said she "changed as a person" after the show and warned people thinking of applying to be aware "how serious things can be", adding that contestants will be "haunted" for the rest of their lives.
Speaking about how her mental health suffered following her appearance on the show, she said, "I was upset all the time and couldn't stop crying. I was having bad anxiety too. I had this shame and guilt I couldn't get over."
ITV2 issued a statement saying, "All islanders are offered psychological support before, during and after their time in the villa. We take our duty of care very seriously."
