It's an essential part of the Don't Tell the Bride's formula that the groom on Don't Tell the Bride organises a wedding that is everything his bride says she doesn't want.

More often than not she's hoping for a classy, traditional affair with the ceremony in a church while he chases his youth with an Ibiza/Oktoberfest/Superhero/Assault Course theme.

She hates it, and that's half the fun for viewers, but ultimately she gets over herself and decides to enjoy the day after all.

Not so on Wednesday night's E4 version of the show.  For the first time in the series' history the couple decided not to make their marriage legal.

While the couples are seen 'marrying' on the show, they later have a legal ceremony to properly seal the deal, but Craig and Sofia opted not to go forward with the legal ceremony.

Sofia wanted a romantic boho beach ceremony.  Craig wanted a Oktoberfest themed wedding.  And so he organised an Oktoberfest themed wedding.

While brides regularly throw strops, Sofia was having none of it.  She hated the dress he chose, she hated the hen do (in a local pub), she hated the venue (a brewery) and ultimately she stormed off and refused to talk to Craig on the day.

"She thinks I’m trying to make her look stupid,’ he said. ‘And I wasn’t…I was trying to make this fun. It’s not a beer festival, it’s a party."

He continued, "I’m sorry that it’s fucked up. I fucked up, I got it wrong…and I wasn’t doing anything against you, I wasn’t trying to make you look silly."

Sofia said she would "go through the motions" and they did but a note at the end of the show revealed they did not then make the marriage legal.
