'I don't go there' - Sheana Keane admits she hasn't spoken to Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh since leaving RTE
Sheana Keane has admitted she hasn't spoken to her former co-presenter Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh since she left RTE five years ago.
The mum-of-two quit The Afternoon Show after bullying allegations arose in connection with her flame-haired colleague.
Keane (43) insists that she has put the controversy behind her and says she now likes to deal with issues head-on.
"I don't go there," she said. "I haven't actually come across or met Blathnaid."
When asked if she would chat to her former co-presenter is she saw her, Keane said "I'd say so" before adding that she doesn't like to discuss it.
"It's five years later and it's unkind to everyone," she said.
Keane said she now likes to focus on "authentic living" and is a fan of meditation and mindfulness. "I know now that when I sit and chat to people I sort of like to get straight to the heart of things rather quickly and have deep meaningful conversations," she said.
Keane is excited to be returning to the small screen with her new series on TV3 called Get the Numbers, Write.
Before her return to television, she was a full-time mother and feels she now wants to make shows that have a "positive impact".
"For the last few years I have been a full-time mum to Isabella and Arthur who are turning 11 and nine," she said.
"So I sort of went into motherhood for a number of years and now my daughter thinks I should go back to work.
"I'd made the decision a long time ago that these were the kind of programmes I wanted to do because they have a huge positive impact and I sort of see TV as a vehicle for impacting change. It's an important value system for me."
The new series follows five adults who have returned to education and have gone on to start projects for adult learners in their communities.
"It's such a powerful and emotional show and I believe it will resonate with many people," said Keane.
"Hopefully, this programme will give people the hope and encouragement to take the next step on the learning curve."
The show airs tonight at 9pm.
