'Holy sh**, this one is f***ing beautiful' - Dáithí Ó Sé on the first time he saw his future wife
As the official countdown to the 2016 Rose of Tralee International Festival began today, host Daithí O'Sé recalled the first time he set eyes on his wife Rita.
RTE host Daithí Ó Sé met the 65 hopeful roses for the 57th Rose of Tralee launch today, with just 24 hours to go until the festival gets underway.
Daithís wife Rita competed in the 2008 Rose of Tralee as the New Jersey rose, and Daithí admitted today that the Rose of Tralee marks their anniversary.
“We met each other in 2008, Rita was the New Jersey rose that time.”
“I can still remember she had a beautiful red dress on and I said holy [crap], this woman is f***ing beautiful looking.”
“We became friends after that. We were friends before we were lovers.
This will be Daithí’s seventh year to interview the roses over the two nights.
For the first time ever all 65 Roses who made it through the regional finals will travel to the festival dome in Tralee for the qualifying selections presented by Dáithí on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 August.
The 32 successful Roses will be announced on Sunday 21 August and will go on to appear in the televised interviews.
Live interviews will be broadcast from the festival dome in Kerry at 8pm on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 August.
This year RTÉ will also broadcast a new preview show Road to the Dome, presented by Sinead Kennedy. The show will follow the 65 Roses from their arrival in Dublin all the way to the Dome.
The Road to the Dome will be broadcast at 6.30pm on Monday 22 August on RTÉ One.
