Here's a sneak peek at tension brewing between Daniel O'Donnell and Dermot Bannon on Room to Improve
Room to Improve is compelling TV at the best of times thanks to the conflict between dreams and budgets and Dermot Bannon.
Throw reluctant programme participant Daniel O'Donnell into the mix and the first episode of the new series next Sunday night promises to be TV gold.
It's no secret that the Donegal singer had rather modest hopes for updating his Kincasslagh property than perhaps his wife Majella and architect Bannon had in mind and the two men clash over the issue.
Dermot plans to unify three ground floor rooms to create a huge open plan kitchen and living area, overlooked by a mezzanine library.
To introduce light and views of the spectacular Donegal landscape, he plans to introduce an enlarged double height south facing window, but they’re not so taken with his vision of wooden floors and a huge exterior floating deck.
Daniel rejects the 'folly' of oak finishes and viewing platforms, and is far more interested in salvaging wardrobes and adding an ensuite bathroom to every bedroom in the house.
Likewise, he has little patience for Dermot’s suggestion of ‘secret’ doors and wall claddings.
As a massive consignment of triple glazed windows arrives on site, the concerted efforts of nine fitters are nothing compared to Dermot’s challenge of placating his feistiest and most single-minded clients yet.
Here's a sneak peek of the tension brewing as Dermot takes his initial tour of their home, before a single plan has been revealed...
