TV presenter Aisling O'Loughlin described the media world as a "cruel business" after looking back on her eventful year.

Writing online the broadcaster described hearing the news about the new line-up for Xpose - which would not include her - while she was on maternity leave after having her third child.

"Henceforth, I've been described as 'axed TV presenter'. What a cruel business it is. Was it something I said?"

Aisling revealed how she then had to figure out a Plan B as she looked at her next career move, having spent the past 16 years learning her trade.

"This year I had to figure out a plan B," she said. "I wasn't going back to TV3 after all.

"The past 16 years had been spent learning my trade. I was institutionalised. What the hell was I going to do with the rest of my life?"

But she then came up with the idea of setting up her own website as she incorporated her love of fashion, style and entertainment.

"The main thing is to do, to honour all you've learned and to keep going. Chin up." she wrote on her website, Exquisite.ie.

She ended her piece on a bright note, saying that so much change in her life has resulted in her feeling "stronger and I feel free."

The presenter, who started off at TV3 as a news journalist, has three young boys with her photographer partner Patrick MacInnes.

They welcomed in the most recent addition to the family, Joseph, last May.
