Fans of 'Fair City' may well have shed a tear last night when much-loved regular Christy Phelan (played by Tom Hopkins) died in heartbreaking scenes.
Having recently suffered a stroke, Carrigstown's corner shop owner faced further trauma when he suddenly had a heart attack whilst under the supervision of his son-in-law Max.
As the scenes unfolded, Christy called out for Max’s help. However, a stunned Max froze to the spot, unsure of how to react, and failed to intervene as Christy fought for breath.
Max, unnerved by what he just witnessed and terrified that Christy may be dead, fled the scene, leaving Christy alone, slumped on the floor.
Unsure of what to do or where to go Max made the horrifying decision to join Farrah in McCoy’s and tell her that Christy was sleeping when he left.
Later, Sean, feeling guilty for the bad feelings lingering between him and Christy, decided to visit Christy to attempt to make amends.
After explaining his thoughts to Farrah and Max he made his way over to Christy’s and unbeknownst to both Farrah and Sean, Max braced himself for what was to come.
On making the heartbreaking discovery, Sean quickly phoned for an ambulance, but unfortunately it was too late and the paramedics confirmed Christy was dead.
