'He just tore the place apart' - Daniel and Majella O'Donnell homeless for Christmas as Dermot Bannon moves in
Daniel O’Donnell and his wife Majella won’t be spending Christmas at their home in Donegal - because architect Dermot Bannon has “tore the place apart”.
Singer Daniel told Ryan Tubridy on last night’s Late Late Show how he and Majella had thought their house needed a few adjustments until the TV architect moved in to make drastic changes.
“He’s doing a great job.. but he came in like and the three things that we wanted done, they were done, but I mean he just tore the place apart.”
“Number one, he said we had a very ordinary house. And us thinking we were living like royalty,” he joked.
Bannon will be seen working on Daniel and wife Majella O'Donnell's coastal home in Kincasslagh in a celebrity edition of Room To Improve.
The pair will spend Christmas with their grandchild Olivia and her parents.
Majella was originally the driving force behind the refurbishment, Daniel said.
“She was at this exhibition and he was talking at the exhibition about how important it is to bring light into dark spaces – the worst line if ever she heard,” he joked.
“I said ‘oh God, I don’t know but I know we’ll get good attention if we did it that way’.”
Bannon previously said how Daniel is taking a very keen interest in the work.
"There have been issues and there will be issues because we're here to resolve it and work through it," said Dermot.
"I was shocked. I thought he'd take a back seat. He hasn't taken a back seat at all. If he gets involved in something, he gets involved in it 100pc.
"He was thinking, 'Where am I going to get time to do this? I've a tour in America, a tour in the UK'. He won't let it go.
"I have had conversations with him where he's lying asleep in bed at 5 o'clock in the morning in Canada and he wakes up to do a FaceTime with everybody. He has been all over it."
