Gogglebox Ireland viewers heartbroken as Eileen opens up about her son's death
Wednesday night's episode of Gogglebox Ireland made for emotional viewing.
The families tuned into Channel 4's A Killing In The Family, a documentary that looks at the heartbreaking effects a murder in the family has on those who are left behind.
They were particularly moved as a trio of sisters - Chloe (13), Chelsea (10) and Lottie (nine) - spoke about how they both lost parents to a murder suicide.
“They split up … Dad was jealous. He came up with a plan. He parked the car round the corner so the dogs woudn’t bark … just stabbed her several times. She tried to run up the stairs but it was too late …”
Lottie explained that the girls were so scared that they went to bed. As soon as the house fell silent they drifted off to sleep. When they woke up, they were being carried out of the house by policemen.
As their story came to an end, Eileen in Castleknock turned to her TV partner Angela to speak about her son's death, although she didn't disclose the details surrounding his passing.
“I was so mad when Tom died, so so angry,” she said to her friend.
“Someone said to me, you’ve an angel in heaven - I didn’t want an angel, I want my son”.
Poor Eileen, sad to hear the loss of her son, it's heartbreaking #GoggleboxIRL— Leah Carroll (@lee4matt) March 15, 2017
This is very difficult to watch, and I agree with Eileen.... who wants an angel? #GoggleboxIRL— Audrey O'Hagan (@Audge3000) March 15, 2017
Ah, sorry to hear that Eileen lost her son. #GoggleboxIRL— Carole (Ducky) (@IrPsych) March 15, 2017
It was the first time that one of the Gogglebox Ireland families had revealed a personal tragedy.
And it was a reminder to people at home that you never truly know what someone else is going through.
But it ended on a lighter note as Angela informed Eileen that she finally won oranges at bingo.
