From the small screen to the circuits... Hector O hEochagain opens Body Works gym
His boundless energy on television screens made Hector a household name, now he’s putting it to good use by opening a gym.
Hector Ó hEochagáin, the TV and radio presenter who was axed from his radio show in 2013, has followed in the footsteps of other RTE celebrities including Kathryn Thomas in turning his hand to fitness.
He is in the process of opening The Body Works in Galway, a fitness and spinning studio providing classes in Kettlebells, Pilates, Yoga, TRX, Body Pump and Circuits.
However, the Navan man insisted the move would not see him hang up his microphone, revealing he would be back on the airwaves within months.
“There are plenty of things in the pipeline. I’m in talks with a number of stations, I can’t say much but I’ll be back on our radio stations within two months. As my mother always said ‘All good things come to those who wait’,” he told the Irish Independent
He added that he was also in talks about fronting a new television show.
“I like going back with something different. The Hector Goes series was really popular. I’m working on something that might be in the same vein but a little different.
“The problem with a lot of production companies is they take an idea from England and do an Irish version of it, I’m sick of that. I think they should be doing more unique programmes for Irish audiences and I think that is what we have been able to do. We are a very unique little country,” he said.
The Galway based presenter has spent the past four months setting up the gym The Body Works, which is based in the Briarhill Business Park.
The former presenter says he became obsessed with fitness when doing his early morning radio show on 2Fm.
“I train solidly three to four days a week. The early morning radio show got me into really training, it’s lifestyle now. If I don’t train three or four times a week I get frustrated,” he said.
