The prayers of Fr Ray Kelly's fans went unanswered last night after the singing priest was ejected from Dancing With The Stars having provided one of the most comedic moments on the RTE One show.
Fr Ray was eliminated in a dance-off with Lottie Ryan after both ended up in the bottom two couples.
Fr Ray and his pro-dance partner Kylee Vincent transformed into Fr Ted and Mrs Doyle as they danced the American smooth and were labelled "the most Irish thing ever seen on Irish TV" by Twitter fans.
They danced to Songs Of Love from Father Ted and Kylee even had her own tea trolley, while Fr Ray wore a black sequinned suit complete with a clerical collar.
Speaking after he was eliminated, Fr Ray said: "What I brought to the show, more than dancing, was the fun element.
"Believe me, you know over the last 10 weeks I've had people out there who flattened me.
"The tango was kept from me due to the sexuality of the dance. I did ask they respect my role as a priest and they did 100pc.
"My body is tired, we had a long routine with rehearsals.
"I was physically tired but it's strange when you see the people coming in and you start getting the glitter and make-up, you get the boost and energy.
"I have lost about 10lbs and I am back to parish life. If you want to come to mass, you'll see me every Sunday morning."
Regarding reported death threats made to the priest while on the show, he said: "That remark about John the Baptist, I never saw it as a death threat.
"It maybe came from someone who had their own problems and they knew what God's will was for me," he added.
Fr Ray's own housekeeper, Mrs Coyle, waved to the couple from the audience as he admitted he had prayed to stay in the show but it wasn't to be.
The pair scored 15 for their efforts but it wasn't enough to stop 2fm presenter Lottie.
She and her dance partner Pasquale La Rocca performed the paso doble to the Mission Impossible theme, injecting a tribute to The Matrix into the routine. Lottie wore a sleek black figure-hugging dress and soldiered on, even after banging her head after a lift went awry in rehearsals.
"I might have fallen on my head yesterday but I'm grand, these things happen. I like to do lifts," she said.
Pasquale admitted: "It was my fault. I was trying to lift her but she slipped from my hands. She showed every week she can be amazing in any style.
"I think she deserves to be in the semi-final." The couple scored 28 points.
Fair City actor Ryan Andrews and Giulia Dotta raced to the top of the leader board after they danced a high-energy charleston to The Muppets.
They scored 30 points for their efforts.
