X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini could miss tonight’s show after being struck down with an infection.

The singer has been battling a highly contagious throat infection all week.

Reports claim that the 31-year-old has not been able to attend rehearsals and has only been able to keep in touch with her one remaining act, Lauren Platt (17), by phone and text.

Cheryl took to Twitter during the week to tell her followers that she's trying to recover before tonight's show.

“Sorry for my absence on here the past few days. I have been so sick. Trying to be better for sat,” she told her followers.

However her infection is said to have worsened over the past 24 hours.

“There is a real chance she’ll miss it,” a source told The Sun.

Her potential absence could mean she will miss a dramatic X Factor weekend which will feature a double elimination.

One act will leave tonight, and another will exit tomorrow.

The X Factor airs tonight on TV3 at 8pm.
