Fair City fans fuming as show goes off air for one week outside of Sunday's double bill
Fair City fans will have to find other ways to entertain themselves next week as no shows are scheduled outside of Sunday's dramatic double bill.
The popular RTE soap usually airs every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday night but, thanks to Eurovision and Champions League football coverage, it will not air on May 9, 10, and 11 next week.
However, the only remaining episode, on Sunday May 14, has been teased as a 'dramatic double bill' which could indicate a resolution of the interminable Katy kidnapping storyline which is hitting its one year anniversary.
RTE has been keeping schtum on the details, but the double bill is the perfect opportunity to give the culmination of a year-long storyline the time it deserves.
Fans have been getting increasingly impatient and a petition was even set up to put pressure on the writers to end the kidnapping storyline.
RTE has revealed that Fair City has been forced to drop eight episodes over the year and this week, with two Eurovision semi-finals and the Champions League semi-final was the perfect opportunity to do so.
“When selecting these nights, RTÉ endeavours to cause the least possible disruption to viewers and generally selects weeks when there is a clash with television events of broad national interest such as Eurovision and Rose of Tralee," a spokesperson told The Irish Sun.
They also promised the soap would return "with a dramatic double bill on Sunday 14th of May.”
