Fair City actress Aisling O’Neill has revealed that dark times are ahead for her character Carol as her father shows up in Carrickstown.

The Dublin actress, who lives in Gorey, Co Wexford, admits that Carol has been finally granted a chance at contentment now that she is set to marry nice guy Robbie in August.

But Carol’s past might just be about to fly back in her face, with the arrival of her father Trigger Foley.

“Now, here’s her dad arriving, introducing a whole fresh chapter for the audience to discover new things about her,” Aisling told the RTE Guide.

“I think the wedding will be full of drama, which is what you always want it a soap!”

Will everything go according to plan for Carol? The actress hinted that she had just completed filming a dark storyline.

But she said: “She has always been drawn to bad men who treated her badly and hurt her. But now she’s come out the other end of it all and found happiness – with Robbie.”

“She’s happy and he truly loves her, he’s her best friend. It’s the first time that she’s actually found someone who has her back. She trusts him.”

Aisling also revealed that if acting hadn’t become a successful career path for her, she would have studied people’s minds.

“I feel very lucky. I like Ireland. I’m a homebird – I love the Irish humour and I’m really interested in how people think. I have often thought that if I wasn’t an actress I’d like criminology or psychoanalysis. I like figuring out why people do things, including myself!”

“I’m a Dublin girl, always will be. There are a lot of good aspects about Gorey, but I could easily see myself living back in Dublin in the future.”
