Like Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle, the RTÉ presenter tried his hopes with short lived Irish band Six.

The 29-year-old radio host was hung out to dry by fellow presenters who played his audition tape.

Six were the short lived music band that resulted from the RTÉ One talent search show ‘Irish Popstars’ in 2001.

The tape shows McDermott singing in a bid to impress the judges, who included Louis Walsh.

“We all wanted fame and fortune..some people have done dodgy things,” he joked.

Although his tuning leaves something to be desired, he proudly confirmed he was asked back for a second audition.

“I scored Linda Martin in the loo after it..unbelievable scenes!” he laughed.

Eoghan is currently filling in for Ryan Tubridy, after a hectic weekend reporting and interviewing at Electric Picnic.
