Emilia Clarke reveals what she would have liked to see for Daenerys in final GoT season
Emilia Clarke has revealed what she would have liked to have done differently with her character in the final season of Game of Thrones.
In a wide-ranging interviiew with The New Yorker conducted two days before the final aired, she revealed that she was not aware of the petition from fans calling for the final season to be reshot.
However, she did say which aspects of her character's arc and relationships she would have liked to further explore.
"Well, I can only speak to my own character, and the people that I interact with on theshow. But I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Missandei. I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Cersei," she said.
She added, "Yeah. I would’ve loved some more scenes between Grey Worm and Missandei. I would’ve loved to see a bit more between Cersei . . . I feel like there was . . . The genocide was there. That was always going to happen. And I just think more dissection and those beautifully written scenes that the boys have between characters—that we are more than happy to contently sit there and watch ten minutes of two people talking, because it’s beautiful. I just wanted to see a bit more of that. But I’m in no position to critique the geniuses that have written eight seasons’ worth of wonderful stuff."
Emilia, who played the character of Daenerys for almost a decade said that she hoped that people would not think "anything bad" of her character, but added, "But I'm sure they will, and I can't control that."
Although she knew of her character's fate eighteen months before those final scenes were shot, she was sworn to secrecy and hoped that fans would understand why she ended up following the path she did and taking such a dark turn.
One such fan was Beyonce, who she hoped would not be disappointed by Daenerys' arc.
She encountered the Crazy in Love star at an Oscars party and said, “And all I wanted to scream was, ‘Please, please still like me even though my character turns into a mass-killing dictator! Please still think that I’m representing women in a really fabulous way.’”
Clarke said that by the time season eight had ended, Beyonce may feel differently about her.
“I was just, like, Oh, my God, my absolute idol in life is saying that she likes me, and I know for a fact that by the end of this season she’s going to hate me,” she said.
