They’re more used to having a drink in the Queen Vic in Albert Square, but EastEnders stars Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace had a different way to relax yesterday – dining with President Michael D Higgins at Aras an Uachtarain.
The pair, who play Alfie and Kat Moon in the soap, are in Ireland filming Redwater, a spin-off of the series, which follows the Moons on their search for Kat’s long-lost son in a fictional Irish village.
Richie posted a picture of the actors with President Higgins, saying it was “an absolute honour” to meet and have lunch with him.
Others confirmed for the Redwater cast include Commitments actresses Angeline Ball and Maria Doyle Kennedy and Ian McElhinney of Game of Thrones.
Some members have been spotted on location in Dalkey in recent months, while Wallace was seen braving the Irish Sea for a dramatic scene while covered in blood. Danish director Jesper Nielsen of Borgen fame will head the series for the BBC, which will be broadcast in 2017.
