Dubliner Lucy O'Byrne makes it through to live finals of The Voice UK

DUBLINER Lucy O’Byrne has continued to wow audiences on The Voice UK as she sailed through the first instalment of the live finals this weekend.

The 24-year-old is the first classical musician to make it this far in the show and she is determined to bring opera music to a  wider audience.

Her proud parents Jimmy and Carol were on hand to watch her reach the next stage of the competition on Saturday night. Her grandmother, Rose, also flew to London to see her perform.

It is no surprise that Lucy is such a talented performer. Her parents run a successful stage school in Baldoyle on Dublin’s north side.

Along with her sister, Rachel, she has chipped in to help with the running of the busy school in the past. Her older sister is based in New York where she is pursuing an acting career.

Rachel has starred opposite Rachel Griffiths and Irish actor Michael McElhatton in Mammal, a movie slated for release this year and the actress jetted in from New York to cheer on her little sister over the weekend.

Neighbours have also been dropping ‘good luck’ cards into her parents. Lucy is no stranger to the stage, aged just 19 she snapped up the lead role in a stage production of The Wedding Singer which ran in the Helix theatre in 2010.

Previously, she told the Herald that she was intent on drumming up the support of the Irish community in the UK to see her through to the end of the competition and it certainly seems to be paying off.

Her mentor, Will.I.Am, has been a huge cheerleader for her and she said she feels very lucky to have him.

“He’s really interested in what I’m doing, even though opera is totally different to the music he creates,” she said of the Black Eyed Peas star.

“I definitely hit the jackpot with him, he is so supportive and he’s really interested in finding out what I can do,” she added.
