SPECULATION is mounting that Mayo man Louis Walsh could be about to return to the X Factor, as the show’s new series continues to hemorrhage viewers.
X Factor boss Simon Cowell had an hour-long chat with Walsh over the weekend, as his concerns grow over the ratings collapse.
Although Sunday’s show showed a slight recovery in viewership on the previous week, it is still down millions from its peak.
Cowell has previously said he would consider axing the show if the ratings continued to tumble.
Now it has emerged he is consulting long-term pal Louis, who he axed form the panel earlier this year, on what isn’t working on the show.
Cowell spoke prior to the show’s launch about how difficult he found the decision to cut Walsh, such is their close friendship off-screen.
The Sun reports that Cowell has no plans to axe Louis’ replacement Nick Grimshaw – yet.
The One Direction boss is known to be ruthless when it comes to ensuring the best from his shows – previously replacing Cheryl mid-series on the US version of the talent competition.
A show source told the paper that Louis remains part of the X Factor family – ramping up speculation he could be called in to assist Cowell backstage during the live shows.
