As if the soap drama wasn't enough on the Corrie live episode tonight, a viewer proposed to his girlfriend via the message board in the Rovers Return.

Viewers would have needed 20:20 vision to catch the message chalked on the blackboard which read, "Katie Lowe, will you marry me?".

Just in case Katie didn't spot the proposal, boyfriend Adam tweeted "@itvcorrie "Katie Lowe, will you marry me?" #CorrieBoard X" over 100 times.

After the show the official Coronation Street Twitter account posted a congratulatory message.

"Did you see our #CorrieBoard message? Well done @literallyadam - your message made it to The Rovers! #CorrieLive"

Adam responded with "im officially engaged, thanks @itvcorrie".

Tonight's hour long live special, which marks ITV's 60th birthday, revolved around David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and his half-sister Sarah-Louise Platt (Tina O'Brien) who were caught up in a war with violent, manipulative Callum (Sean Ward), but Sarah ran into trouble when she takes on her ex-boyfriend.

This was producer Stuart Blackburn's swansong as Emmerdale's current producer Kate Oates will soon take over ITV's biggest soap.

Blackburn is leaving the role to work on other projects within ITV, but will remain at the helm for the live episode.
