Corrie fave Claire King quits Coronation Street cobbles after 3 years
Claire King has quit Coronation Street after three years on the ITV soap.
The 54-year-old actress is popular among fans for her portrayal of Erica Holroyd on the show. However, Claire revealed on Friday that she has decided to leave the programme this summer.
"It’s been a dream come true to tread those famous cobbles. I was only meant to stay for six weeks initially, so for Erica to be so popular that she stayed for three years and even worked in The Rovers was a real compliment to me as an actress,” Claire said in a statement.
Erica's exit has yet to be revealed but she won't be killed off, as Claire went on to hint that she may make a return to the series at some point in the future.
“I’ve had such a great time with the cast and crew, so it’s fabulous that they have left the door open for Erica to return in the future. Who knows what adventures she’ll be getting up to away from the Street? She’s certainly not boring," Claire smiled.
"As for me, I’m ready for another challenge. I’m not leaving the screens anytime soon, so watch this space."
Soap fans have speculated Erica's departure could have something to do with rumours she is about to embark on an affair with Kevin Webster, played by Michael Le Vell.
Claire and Michael were seen in character at a hotel where they filmed scenes, sparking reports they could be heading in a romantic direction beginning with a secret rendezvous.
The relationship would be without the knowledge of their partners - Kevin has been in a serious relationship with Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) for some time while Eric has been dating Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) for more than a year.
