Christy Dignam lit up the Late Late Show with an appearance on Friday night.

The Aslan singer, who is battling incurable cancer, joined Finbar Furey on the couch last night and treated the audience to a rousing rendition of The Green Fields of France.

He spoke about his ongoing health and recovery and spoke of a heartwarming story where his pals lifted his spirits during one particularly bad day during a course of chemotherapy.

"When I was ill, when I was getting the chemo, I was still in a wheelchair at the time and I was really, really depressed," Dignam said.

"At the time, I was thinking, 'Is this what my life is going to be?' He [Finbar] came up with this banjo and we just sat down for about three or four hours, just playing songs.

"The way it lifted me - it brought me totally out of the slump that I was in."

Furey added: "It was a great day. Francie Conway, he's a great pal of ours, so Francie brought a guitar and I brought a banjo."

And viewers went wild.
