Charlize Theron is set to collaborate with House of Cards creator David Fincher on a new Netflix original series.

Theron and the Gone Girl director will work together on Mindhunter, a series based on some of the FBI's highest profile serial crime cases.

It is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, written by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

The criminals Douglas tracked in the course of his career were some of the most notorious rapists and serial killers.

In the book he outlines how he managed to track them down.

According to Deadline, Oscar-winner Theron will executive produce and star in the show while Fincher will executive produce and direct.

Netflix have not yet commented on the news.
