'Love/Hate' actress Charlie Murphy stepped out in period costume yesterday to play her latest role in a new series depicting a seminal moment in Irish history.

'Rebellion' is a five-part serial drama which charts events surrounding the 1916 Rising. Irish actors Brian Gleeson and Sarah Greene also star in the drama, which is set over three weeks in Easter of that year.

Murphy joined co-star Gleeson, son of Hollywood star Brendan, on the streets of the capital to film the opening scenes in the 10-week shoot. The drama will chart "the violent birth of modern Ireland".

The series is written by Colin Teevan, who wrote 'Charlie', the recent RTÉ drama about former Taoiseach Charles J Haughey.

The drama will tell personal stories which are intertwined with political events of the time

It is scheduled to be broadcast on RTÉ1 next year.
