Brendan Gleeson's directorial debut featuring all four sons to air on St Patrick's Day
It will be a family affair of the Gleesons on St Patrick's Day as dad Brendan's directorial debut, featuring the talents of all four of his sons, airs on Sky Arts.
The short film Psychic tells the story of a charismatic psychic (Brendan Gleeson) who is forced out of retirement by his manipulative sons (played by real life sons Domhnall and Brian) and taken on the road.
The last obstacle to gaining a large cult following is a TV show host (Ingrid Craigie) determined to bring them down.
Brendan's writer son Rory penned the light and dark tale while his son Fergus Gleeson provided the music for the film.
The film had its premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last year.
Speaking after the screening, Brendan revealed what it was like working on the project with family.
"It was difficult enough because everybody's pretty fiercely professional in their own way and it was crossing into family lines and talking about family," he told IFTN.
"It was one of the reactions that we got, was that, ‘God damn, it's so weird, you all look the same.’ and all this stuff. It was an interesting one. It wasn't as simple as I thought it might be, and at the same time, I thought it was hugely enjoyable. Obviously, it was great."
It's not the first time Brendan senior (63) has worked with his sons. In 2014 he appeared on stage opposite Domhnall (35) and Brian (31) in a production of The Walworth Farce.
Domhnall and Brian also appeared together as brothers in Darren Aronofsky's Mother! in 2017.
Brendan was most recently seen in the critically acclaimed TV series Mr Mercedes and Netflix's Oscar-nominated film, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and he will next star opposite Marisa Tomei and Isabelle Huppert in Frankie.
Domhnall, meanwhile, will this year appear in Star Wars: Episode IX and The Kitchen and is currently filming the Peter Rabbit sequel while Brian is fresh from memorable turns in RTE series Taken Down and Resistance. He also has a role in Hellboy which releases in April.
‘Psychic’ airs at 9pm on Sky Arts and NOW TV this Sunday 17th March.
