RTE star Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh has opened up about grieving when her father died in 2009.

The presenter’s father, who had diabetes, passed away following a stroke in 2009 while Blathnaid was in the house.

The flame-haired host revealed she was so heartbroken following her father’s death that her husband Ciaran had to care for her.

“I was angry at him for letting himself die because that’s how I saw it,” she said.

“But that was terrible and just me being selfish.”

The 45-year-old said that her husband Ciaran kept her going following her dad’s death, as well as when she underwent several operations last year and had half her colon removed.

“I’m so in awe of his calmness, especially when awful things have happened to us over the years,” she said.

“Things like when I was sick and pretending to be well and when my dad died.  I was so physically incapacitated that Ciaran had to bathe me.

"Ciaran would wash me and feed me and check in during the day and look after the kids,” she told the RTE Guide.
