There may be a slightly awkward atmosphere amongst the dance stars for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing as Brendan Cole and Aliona Vilani have clashed over a photo.

Professional dancer Cole reportedly faced the threat of legal action from fellow pro Aliona after he used a photo of her in promotional material for his show, 'A Night to Remember'.

The Russian dancer has nothing to do with the show and The Sun reports that Kiwi Brendan had to pay her a large fee to prevent her from pursuing the case against him for using her image without license.

Both dancers previously worked together on Brendan's show, 'Licence to Thrill' and had a good working relationship. However, things have soured over the recent clash and they are reportedly refusing to dance with each other on Strictly.

“The picture didn’t even show Aliona’s face clearly, it was more of a body shot. But she obviously recognised herself immediately," a source told The Sun.

“She was seriously unhappy when she realised her picture was being used to push Brendan’s shows when she wasn’t even in them."

The source added, “She wanted to sue and Brendan was furious when he was told of her plan. He reluctantly agreed to pay out to make it go away. But needless to say, that was the end of any friendship."

Aliona won Strictly with Harry Judd in 2011 but last year she was eliminated first with her partner, MasterChef's Gregg Wallace.

She caused a stir when she retweeted comments saying she had deserved a better dance partner.
