A revival of The Office is in the works - but without one key component
A new series of US version of The Office is in the works, whether you want it or not.
According to TVLine, NBC is eyeing up a tenth series of the sitcom set in the Scranton PA branch of Dunder Mifflin.
However, while it will reportedly feature a mix of familiar faces and new characters, Steve Carell will not return as Michael Scott.
He appeared in the first seven seasons but the final two continued without him, and were widely considered to be inferior without him. However, the finale saw a return to form.
The new revival is expected to air across 2018 and 2019 although no details have been confirmed by NBC.
The network's relaunch of Will & Grace proved a critical and commercial hit, and network president Bob Greenblatt told Deadline that The Office and 30 Rock were also on his revival radar.
He said he spoke to Greg Daniels four times over the past few years. The Office was adapted for the US from Ricky Gervais original UK series by Daniels, a writer for Saturday Night Live, King of the Hill, and The Simpsons.
Of those conversations with Daniels, Greenblatt said, "It’s always, ‘Maybe someday, but not now’. There is certainly an open invitation, but we don’t have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it." he said.
However, Will & Grace returned with its complete original cast, something which will be lacking on The Office, according to reports.
