Ratings for the final episode of Top Gear to feature Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond fell well short of the 10 most-watched shows in the programme's history.

Sunday's edition attracted a provisional total of 5.8 million viewers: roughly two-and-a-half million below Top Gear's all-time high audience of 8.35 million in December 2007.

The figure of 5.8 million means it is also the least watched episode of Top Gear this year, though the total is likely to rise once additional views on the BBC iPlayer are taken into account.
