Triona McCarthy throws Spanx at Karl Henry after last week's Operation Transformation weigh-in drama
Celebrity Operation Transformation's Triona McCarthy brought a smile to fitness expert Karl Henry's face when she gifted him with a pair of knickers during Wednesday night's weigh-in.
The pair cleared the air after a tense episode of the programme last week when the 'Sunday Independent' journalist and broadcaster was criticised for wearing Spanx by Henry, who said the underwear was preventing him from taking accurate measurements of her waist.
Pulling the knickers out of her hair, the beauty writer threw them over to the Operation Transformation panel following her weigh-in on Wednesday night.
"Karl before you do anything, they are for you," she said.
The fitness instructor couldn't help but laugh as he thanked her for the gift.
"Thank you for those, I'll bring them home," said Henry.
"Who knew a piece of underwear would get so much attention? Figure hugging underwear alter your figure, that's what they're there for. The measurements last week without the Spanx was an inch higher on your waistline and that's what the big hullabaloo was about. When the show finished I want to show you the difference four weeks can make to your shape, to your weight and to your fitness levels. We need to put that behind us and hit next week's target. It's really, really crucial."
McCarthy was taken aback last week when Henry scolded her about wearing shape-altering underwear after he asked her not to.
Speaking to Independent.ie, McCarthy said: "I've never before got in trouble for having knickers on!"
"If I was wearing my usual Spanx or control underwear, they come down to my knees and under my bust, my back fat is all squashed in, like a wrestling suit. I was wearing high waisted knickers, they weren't Spanx, they were ones I wore while I was pregnant under my dress and I just popped them on," she said.
"When Karl measured me, he never said anything. If it was such a big deal, why didn't he say it then? I would have pulled them down," she added.
This week, the journalist was tormented with temptation, as she travelled to New York for fashion week. The writer had gained 0.5lb when she stood on the scales on Wednesday, which Dr Ciara Kelly said could be a result of bloating and water retention following an overnight flight.
Meanwhile, the programme's other leaders celebrated reaching their targets. Former X Factor star Mary Byrne exceeded her weight loss target of 2lbs, shedding a total of 4.5lbs this week. Social media star James Patrice lost 4lb, while country music singer Kayleigh Cullinane shed 5lbs. Chef Gary O'Hanlon exceeded his target weight loss with a weight loss of 3.5lbs.
