‘They said my voice box should be destroyed with a fork’- First Dates star Laura on being trolled online after RTE show
A make-up artist who was looking for love on First Dates Ireland has opened up about the abuse she received online after the show aired.
Laura Finn (24) appeared on the show last week, but said the comments she received from strangers in its aftermath were “really bad”.
“My friends told me to stay off social media but I couldn’t help it. I was obviously going to look,” Laura told The Irish Sun.
“I looked at Twitter straight away and obviously it was really bad. Some of the stuff on Facebook was worse actually.
“They were having a go at everything, saying ‘she’s really superficial’ and all this. I saw one say ‘she has the personality of a brick’ and another said ‘her voice box need to be destroyed with a fork’.
Despite the nasty comments, Laura revealed they haven’t phased her following her successful date with Adam on the hit show.
“It doesn’t upset me but I just don’t respond to them. I respond to the nice comments.
“People don’t get my sense of humour straight away, it takes a while and then they go, ‘oh she’s not being serious’A I knew going on it that I would be getting a fair bit of abuse from keyboard warriors but it didn’t bother me.
“My whole life I’ve had a weird voice so I wasn’t surprised by any of the voice comments. I get them every day of the week,” she said.
The make-up artist revealed that producers pushed her for a sob story ahead of the programme and said she came across as a “boring b***h” because she did not have one.
“They really want a sob story. People hate me now because I don’t have a sob story, they think I’m just a boring bitch.
“I was nervous watching the show as I was on antibiotics the day of the date and combined with all the wine, I was worried it would be a trainwreck.
“I’d do it again but I would plan my outfit more than ten minutes before the show starts,” she said.
