She loves to wear blue. But with a blue-lit newsroom set, that was pretty much ruled out for Alison Comyn making her news anchor debut on the first night of UTV Ireland.

Ditto for weather girl Jenny Buckley, the blonde, mother of one from Howth who may love green, but with a green screen behind her, that too was a no go.

However, both ladies tweaked their tastes for the opening night of the new TV station.

Alison's enviably slim figure was as noticeable as her tailored, red dress with subtle neckline and matching gold necklace.

Wearing a body-con dress is far easier standing up than sitting down, but the shape of Alison's dress remained smooth and her figure was defined throughout her opening news show.

Alison's choice was a bold statement of body and camera confidence. The mum of two loves walking the beach near her home in Drogheda and she ran the Goal mile in Termonfeckin on St Stephen's Day, so a love of exercise clearly helps keep her in top shape.

The elegant dress, with elbow length sleeves, had the perfect hemline, hitting her just above the knee. As an opening salvo, the outfit created a perfect blend of viewer engagement, professional gravitas and the cameras ate up the colour.

Jenny Buckley was ideal as the girl next door who has to deliver the bad news that we are having rain again. Her monochrome outfit was smart but her cream jacket looked a tad too big.
