RTÉ Press Office have denied reports that the set cost a quarter of a million euro, as claimed in the tabloids.

A figure of €120,000 was also speculated by The Sunday Times, but a representative for RTÉ confirmed that the cost was also less than that.

“I hope you like what I’ve done with the place,” presenter Ryan Tubridy told the audience when the set was unveiled on Friday the 9th of January.

The new exposed-brick set, designed by Marcella Power, features brown leather seats, offbeat paintings and a new glass entranceway.

The programme also now boasts a different title sequence, but the famous owl still appears as a silhouette.

RTE One Channel Controller Ryle Nugent previously stated that the new set was a move in the station’s plan to remain the “market leader”:

"There is more competition especially with the introduction of UTV Ireland in January, but we are confident we have what it takes to stay at the top," he said last year.
