A mortified Ray D’Arcy has been the subject of a Twitter backlash following Saturday night’s car-crash interview with a Jack Nicholson impersonator visiting the capital.

The RTE presenter introduced the Hollywood actor Nicholson to the audience only to break the news that he was in fact a look-a-like moments later.

“He has played iconic roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining, As Good As It Gets, and The Departed. Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Jack Nicholson,” Ray said before asking him how he was enjoying Ireland.

“I’m doing great. I love Ireland. Oh Yeah,” replied ‘Jack’.

“Em, Okay. Tell the truth. Are you really Jack Nicholson,” Ray asked before turning to his audience.

Visibly embarrassed, the host insisted that the cringe worthy interview was “not his idea”.

“He’s not Jack Nicholson. Sorry about that. I feel really bad. It wasn’t my idea. It wasn’t my idea,” said Ray.

The ridiculous interview attracted the attention of some witty Twitter users who tuned into the show.

“I have a red beard and glasses so next week I’m going on the Ray D’Arcy show as new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp,” tweeted Oisin Langan.

“If you lived with Ray would you have the balls on a Sunday morning to ask him, ‘How was work last night?’ Greg Hughes tweeted.

The new Saturday night show aired earlier this autumn on RTE One and has been lashed with mixed reviews.
